Did I Miss Something?

So we went for the injection class and it seemed rather pointless. How ironic, saying that being taught to use needles was pointless.

Its not that learning how to use these tools was without merit in itself. Its just that it seemed hardly worth the time it took to go there. We showed up for our appointment a few minutes early like good little patients. After sitting for about 10 minutes we were called back. We sat at a table and we were shown the injection pen, how to dial a dose, what to do to reset the dose and how to inject it.
That took about five minutes and that was it. We were done.
Why did that need its own appointment?

One pen and that's it? We were shown 4 different types of injections. First the lupron, then the pen, then HCG (powder and liquid mixed together), then the progesterone (oily injection). Having said that, maybe some of your meds are pills?

Also, the instructions about the pen are important because if you draw too much, you cant just turn it back to reset it. You have to keep turning it forward, or something. I'm sure you know. I made my husband go so he would know, not me.

Good luck with it.

Have you tried to shove the pen into your belly and press in the fluid? I highly recommend getting over the hurdle of doing it yourself before you pass judgement on how easy it is. But maybe you are just one of those that do the whole injecting easily and don't have problems with injecting themselves.

I really hope your wife has an easy time with it too! I am struggling a bit every night although I know from an intellectual perspective that it is no big deal!

Good luck to your wife with the injecting! I hope you can support her in case she needs support!

They did our injection lesson with the orientation session, it seems alot easier that way. They should realize that people can be travelling or taking time off work and try to group appointments together.

The Center I use gave us a DVD. It went over how to use the pen, and how to do the HcG shots in my butt cheek, which required mixing and the use of a suringe. They offered a 1:1 session at the office, but we didn't think we needed it.

Here's a useful tip, if it applies to you. I use Repronex (LH and FSH mixture) AND Follistim (FSH only). I mix the Repronex as instructed, and then shoot the Follistim pen into the Repronex vile. I pull this cocktail into a suringe, and then I only have to inject my tummy once, instead of once for the Repronex and once for the Follistim. The doctor I use suggested it. You should double check with your doctor though.

I do my own injections in my stomach, and my husband gets poke a long needle in my butt cheek now and then. He said it kinda feels like putting a needle in a tomato! Yikes!
